Yellow Zone Informational Letter
Dear Sodus families,
At this time, the Sodus Central School District continues to be proactive in our preparation and response to COVID-19 and its impact on our school community. As part of this response, the District has begun planning should Wayne County or our region be designated a Yellow Zone by Governor Cuomo’s Micro-Cluster initiative. At the time of this communication, we are not in a designated Yellow Zone. However, we want to be ready just in case.
Under the Micro-Cluster initiative, schools or zones designated a Yellow Zone will be required to test 20% of in-person students, faculty, and staff randomly over the designated two-week period, or will need to transition to virtual instruction. The new rapid COVID-19 test to be given in schools is less invasive than the standard COVID-19 test and involves a quick swab inside the lower part of the nose. There will be no cost to our families or employees.
To participate in the free diagnostic testing, students and staff will need to complete the COVID-19 Consent Form. A test will not be administered without parental/guardian consent. To help us prepare for a possible transition to Yellow Zone designation, we are asking families to complete and return the form for each child attending school only. Students who are 100% virtual do not have to be tested. All you need to do is complete the form, type your name in the box (this serves as your electronic signature), and click "I approve." We ask that you complete the electronic consent form found below by Wednesday, November 25th.

**Attached, please find a Yellow Zone FAQ for Families document. This provides answers to some of the questions you may have.
**Below please find a video that we put together which provides detailed information on what your child will experience when tested.
As always, we thank you for being our partners in education and for your continued support of our school. It has been and will continue to be our primary goal to keep our school safely open. In order to accomplish this, should we be designated as a Yellow Zone, we must be able to test enough students and staff to meet the required sample size. Your consent to have your child tested will help us meet this requirement. As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s building principal or me anytime.
